At last, Xbox Series X co-op game Redfall has a release date
>
While Arkane’s games, such as the dishonored developer is quick to admit, are hard to define, being composed of a mix of genres and an overlapping mass of systems, the co-op vampire hunting game Redfall finally enters the picture. It even has a release date: May 2, 2023.
In previous live streams about redfall, Arkane focused on the moment-to-moment gameplay, how the weapons work, some of the skills you can unlock, and how you can team up with other players to combine skills against your vampire enemies. But in this most recent livestream, the Xbox & Bethesda Developer Direct, Arkane stepped back to talk about your overarching goal in the Xbox Series X game.
Your mission is simple: clear the city of Redfall of all the bloodsuckers and their cronies.
That may seem like a simple goal, but in practice there is a bit more to it. For starters, the town of Redfall doesn’t just have a vampire problem. Human cultists have taken up residence in the community, capturing survivors and feeding them to the leeches. It’s a kind of hero worship for the cultists, who try to get on the good side of the pointy teeth and ingratiate themselves with the vampire gods.
To rid the city of vampires and cult members, you must move from neighborhood to neighborhood eliminating vampire nests and cult operations. Finally, when you’ve caused enough commotion, you must kill a vampire underboss. These are souped-up vampires armed with special abilities only found in those boss battles.
In every neighborhood you will find a hiding place where you can set up your shop. Arkane didn’t go into detail about what you might do in these places, though hopefully they’re more than good fast travel and respawn spots.
When you kill an underboss, you claim their skull, which acts as a sort of key. Collect enough skulls and you’ll unlock a battle with one of the vampire gods, and I don’t know how to put this other than to say they’re a big bloodsucker. They’re so big I think I might have to play redfall in co-op anyway, even though you can complete the entire game in single player.
I’ll decide if I want to go it alone against the vamps when the time comes, but at least I can schedule the decision now because the redfall release date is not far off. I just have to wait until May 2nd. And since it’s coming out on Game Pass on day one, of course I won’t even have to convince my friends to pick up a copy. We can just start it up on a whim.
