Anyone looking for the best portable monitors will have come across Asus and its range of external monitors that are perfect for work on the go, because while large laptops are more common, some of us still need a big screen wherever we go.
At Computex 2024, Asus I took off the wrappers an exciting range of new monitors, offering everything from 8K resolutions to foldable form factors.
What caught our attention, however, was the new range of foldable monitors, specifically the portable ZenScreen Duo OLED (MQ149CD) monitor.
Ultra-portable
The ZenScreen Duo OLED, the striking display announced by Asus, offers a 14-inch 16:10 FHD dual-OLED display that expands to 21 inches thanks to its 360° hinge and foldable stand. The end result is that you can work in both portrait and landscape on the go.
Even more incredibly, the ZenScreen Duo OLED weighs just 700 grams – or less than half the weight of the latest M3 MacBook Pro at 1.55kg – meaning you can move this screen around in a backpack or laptop bag with relative ease.
The Duo has two USB-C ports, but there was no mention of touchscreen capabilities, which seems strange to us given the focus on portability – putting your content into practice in tight or smaller spaces should be a certainty for a product if this .
Asus didn’t appear to announce a price or release date for the ZenScreen Duo OLED, but we can assume it will be fairly expensive and release sometime in 2024.
The great way to achieve productivity
For anyone with a MacBook Pro or one of the best laptops, the urge to work on the go is quite difficult to avoid, and using a portable monitor that can easily be attached to a laptop yet is light enough to carry around is ideal .
During our extensive testing, we found the Asus ZenScreen OLED MQ13AH (i.e. the previous generation of these displays) to be the best choice, with a 13.3-inch screen, USB-C, mini HDMI, weighing just 490 grams and a price of approximately 490 grams. Currently €400 at most retailers.
