Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass sparked a hotly contested debate on social media this week and is now on the verge of jokes.

Bass posted a Twitter photo on Sunday of his two toddler daughters on a flight with popcorn strewn on the floor below, explaining that a United flight attendant “made” his wife clean up.

While facing his former team – the Astros – on Monday night, Bass received an apparently brutal jibe from Houston announcer Geoff Blum, who said the Michigan man had come up on the mound to “try to clean it up.”

Apparently this was a reference to the Twitter post that sparked opposing opinions online.

“The flight attendant @united just got my 22 weeks pregnant wife traveling with a five year old and a two year old on her hands and knees to clean up my youngest daughter’s popcorn mess,” Bass tweeted, before adding, “Are you me?” to fool?!?!’

The 35-year-old from Michigan posted a photo on Sunday of his two daughters on a flight playing on electronic devices with popcorn strewn on the ground as they flew United Airlines

Blum, of course, could have been referring to the predicament Bass faced as he climbed the mound — with the ‘Stros leading 8-1 and a runner on third base.

In response to the backlash he received from the first post, Bass insisted that it was United Airlines that provided the popcorn, not his wife.

The six-foot right then posted an update informing his followers that “United Airlines handles things internally with the flight attendant.”

The father-of-two then added, “Thanks everyone for the support.” His last post on the subject was a picture of one of his fun-loving daughters next to a big bag of popcorn.

DailyMail.com has contacted United Airlines for comment.

As Bass expressed his outrage at the situation, some of the Twitter users called him out, saying it was his responsibility as a parent to clean up the floor, not the cabin crew’s.

In response to backlash, Bass stressed that it was UA who provided the popcorn, not his wife
