Video footage revealed the moment a California woman was airlifted to hospital after being crushed in a dumpster when the trash bin she was sleeping in was emptied.
The woman, who has not yet been identified, had fallen asleep in a trash can in Buena Park and was accidentally dumped into a garbage truck.
She was rescued Friday morning after the garbage truck driver heard noises coming from the vehicle.
“It went smoothly,” Capt. Greg Barta, a spokesman for the Orange County Fire Authority, told The Mercury News. “It’s something they train for all the time. If an unusual call comes in, they can handle it safely, effectively and efficiently.”

“Our firefighters approached the patient, treated her and performed high-level surgery to free her from the truck. These types of “extraordinary” calls are what our crews train for all the time!”
At approximately 7:30 a.m., firefighters responded to a call on the 8000 block of La Palma Avenue.
Firefighters reached the truck from the top and provided medical aid to the woman.
Using ropes and a pulley system attached to a ladder fire truck, they lifted the woman, who was placed in a stokes basket, from the garbage truck.
The basket was then lowered to the ground and the woman was taken to a hospital.
The woman’s condition is stable, Barta said.
Barta said firefighters regularly perform similar rescues from different scenarios, such as ditches and roofs.
