Aston Villa fans joke that Youri Tielemans ‘can’t buy a start’ for the club, but was scoring for free with Belgium, netting twice in the first-half against England

Aston Villa fans have expressed their surprise at Youri Tielemans’ first-half performance for Belgium against England after he failed to excel at club level.

The Belgian star made his way from Leicester City to Villa last summer, but he has struggled to ignite his new club in the same way he did with the Foxes.

However, he put his club woes aside by scoring twice for the visitors in the first half of Tuesday night’s friendly at Wembley.

“Why can’t Tielemans play like this for Villa ffs,” wrote another frustrated supporter, while a third commented: “Youri Tielemans is a fantastic player. I have the feeling that Unai Emery doesn’t appreciate his talent very much at Aston Villa’.

“Guess we need to look at this Tielemans lad #AVFC,” joked one cheeky Villains supporter.

Another fan noted that their club came first even when playing against their own country, saying: ‘I celebrated Tielemans’ goal more than Toney’s. Shoot me? #avfc’.

Meanwhile, an England supporter became frustrated with the defense allowing the Villa man the opportunity to strike, writing: ‘How on earth did we let Tielemans score twice? He’s fucking awful’.

In their quest to finish in the Champions League, Aston Villa host Wolves on Saturday night before traveling to title-chasing Manchester City on Wednesday.

Belgium have friendlies against Montenegro and Luxembourg in June before their Euro 2024 campaign gets underway with group stage matches against Slovakia, Romania and a play-off winner.
