Aston Villa secured a historic victory on the return of Champions League football at Villa Park on Wednesday evening, beating German giants Bayern Munich 1-0.
Jhon Duran proved he is the king of chaos for Unai Emery when he scored after coming off the bench again and netted late as his side held on for a shock win, but how did he judge that?
Emiliano Martinez, meanwhile, was the star of the show as he came to the rescue late on, and his performance earned him a solid rating from TOM Collomosse of Mail Sport at Villa Park.

Had little to do in the first half until he leapt to the right to knock down Michael Olise’s swerving effort and later made even better stops from Serge Gnabry and Kane.

Against such a difficult customer in Kingsley Coman, Konsa showed what a good one-on-one defender he is, even if he doesn’t like playing as a right-back.
Diego Carlos – 6.5
Not many centre-backs would choose to face Kane over Liam Delap, but he had an easier time against the England captain than he did against the Ipswich man last Sunday.
Pau Torres – 7.5
Disappointed because his goal was disallowed for offside, the Spaniard is enjoying the European stage, where his sometimes physical vulnerability is rarely exposed. Great ball for Duran’s goal.
Lucas Digne-7
The left-back had a good start in both attack and defence, although Villa’s high line means no margin for error and there were a few hairy moments.

Villa’s best player in the opening weeks of this season, the Belgian, put in another performance, one brilliant spin away from Joshua Kimmich as the highlight.
Jacob Ramsey-6
Eliminated due to offside in the action, which resulted in Torres’ attack being disallowed for offside and having to come off injured halfway through the first half.
Morgan Rogers-7
He was inaccurate during the opening exchanges but still grew into the game and soon tested Bayern by picking up the ball deep and charging at their back four.
Ollie Watkins-6.5
He made two mistakes from Dayot Upamecano, meaning the Bayern man should have received two bookings. Made sure he took the few chances he had to cause problems for the visitors.

Villa could not get to grips with his passing or movement in the early stages and he remains one of the smartest players in the European game.
Dayot Upamecano-6
Struggled to deal with Watkins and was fortunate not to be sent off, somehow escaping a booking for dragging England forward while trying to race clear.
Kim Minjae – 6.5
Crucial jump at the far post to prevent Watkins from putting Villa ahead. Solid in defence, but perhaps not the ball-playing centre-back Vincent Kompany needs for this style of play.

Showed great energy on Bayern’s right and his direct running often had Villa kicking back, although he was less confident when asked to defend.

The former Crystal Palace player found himself on the fringes of the game for most of the game, although he came close to putting Bayern ahead just before half-time.

Tried to combine with Coman in the first half, but Konsa and Philogene did well. Had little trouble going the other way.
