Assumption College: School bus driver dies and students injured after vehicle careers off road and hits a tree
A school bus driver has died and students are injured after the vehicle went off the road and into a tree.
The bus was carrying students from Assumption College in Kilmore, north of Melbourne, when it crashed just after 3.30pm.
The 65-year-old driver died on the spot.

There were about 32 students on the bus. One person suffered serious injuries and several others suffered minor injuries.
An Assumption College spokesperson said: ‘A number of students were treated at the scene by emergency services for minor injuries.
“Everyone is expected to return home this evening.
“Counseling and other support will be made available to students and families.
‘The College immediately informed all families and Principal Paul Finneran and other staff traveled to the scene.
‘The Board thanks the emergency services for their quick and professional response.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved in this accident.”

A hero tradie named Colby was one of the first on the scene and spread the word Herald Sun how he helped save dozens of students.
“When I got there, me and another guy jumped through the window and helped the kids out, but I wasn’t sure about the bus driver,” he said.
“We used the hammer to smash open one of the emergency windows at the front, get a ladder over and help them out of the bus.”
Ambulance Victoria said: “Paramedics treated one child at the scene for a minor upper body injury and transported him to Kilmore Hospital in a stable condition.
“About 30 other children on board were assessed at the scene but did not require emergency ambulance transport.”
