After being shunned for 12 years for his crackdown on protests pushing Syria toward civil war, President Bashar al-Assad returned to the Arab League’s annual summit. The process of rehabilitating al-Assad — spearheaded by the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman — has taken years of PR, spin, photo ops and history brushing aside.
