Ashley Young has revealed he was disappointed with Jose Mourinho during his time at Manchester United.
The Everton star played for Manchester United from the summer of 2016 until December 2018 when he was sacked at Old Trafford.
Young was a guest on Monday Night Football, where he discussed his playing career, including his decade-long stint with the Red Devils.
The 38-year-old said that despite the initial excitement over Mourinho’s arrival to replace Louis van Gaal, he was disappointed with the manager’s playing style.
He said: ‘I think everyone was very excited about Jose’s arrival. When you see what he has done in his career, you would think this was an appointment that could have happened years earlier than then.

Young insists Mourinho pushed the team to play in a style that was not Manchester United’s way
“I say a little disappointing, about what was to come.
“You knew Jose from the Chelsea days and then he went to Real and then he comes back and you see the style of football that is played there.
‘I don’t think it was a style of football that suited the Manchester United way.’
When asked if that was something the players of that time talked about, he replied: “Yes of course players always talk and even then as players we could have incorporated a bit more.”
Young went on to say that any managers who came in the years following Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013 would have found it difficult.
Presenter Dave Jones pointed out that it had been five years since the legendary manager left when Mourinho came to Old Trafford, to which Young replied: “Yes, it was, and I think there was too much around the club and sometimes players were those who had not done so. and under the boss (Ferguson) it was sink or swim.
“And they were tough times where I don’t think players were giving as much as they could.”
Mourinho won the Carabao Cup and the Europa League during his time at Old Trafford and finished runners-up in the 2017/18 season.

However, a poor start to the 2017/18 season led to Mourinho being sacked after a 3-1 defeat to bitter rivals Liverpool.
Young joined Manchester United from Aston Villa in 2011 and won the Premier League title with the club two years later, in Ferguson’s final year with the team.
During his appearance on Monday Night Football, he also revealed that there were tears in the locker room when Ferguson broke the news of his retirement.
After finishing second at United in the 2017/2018 season, Mourinho was sacked in December of the following season after a difficult first few months.
He has since managed Tottenham and Roma, but is currently without a club after being sacked by the latter in January.
