Ashley Young has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson is scarier than Sean Dyche and still terrifies him to this day.

The former Manchester United winger was signed by Ferguson from Aston Villa in 2011.

Young now plies his trade at Everton, managed by Sean Dyche. The 38-year-old signed for the Toffees on a free transfer this summer and has started every game for the club so far.

Dyche is known for his strict and old-fashioned coaching over the years. However, according to Young, it doesn’t seem like anyone is getting close to Ferguson.

Young, who made 39 appearances for England, played for Ferguson for two years before retiring in 2013.

Speaking in the talkSPORT studio, the Englishman revealed what it is like to work with both coaches.

Speaking to Alan Brazil and Gabriel Agbonlahor, Young was asked: ‘Who is scarier, Fergie or Dychey?’

Young replied, “The boss, I would say. I can’t even call him Fergie because he’s still the boss.

“I said to someone the other day when he called your phone and you see the boss is calling you…

“It’s like, turn the music down, you’re still scared of him when you answer. Even now!’

During his time with the Red Devils, Young won one Premier League, an FA Cup, a Carabao Cup and a Europa League.

The winger turned full-back left Old Trafford in 2020 to sign for Serie A giants Inter Milan.

He spent one season in Serie A before returning to England to sign for Aston Villa. The defender spent two years at Villa Park before joining the Toffees in July ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Everton have yet to win a Premier League match this season and face Arsenal this weekend

Everton have had a difficult start to the new season, taking just one point from their opening four games – a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United before the international break.

Young also gave his thoughts on what it is like to work under Dyche, saying: “He (Dyche) is an old-fashioned manager but he has moved with the times.

‘That’s just how football is, you have to move with the times. He’s a hard worker, he wants you to work hard, and that’s just a given.

‘He is a manager who likes players to go out, play and express themselves. If you work hard, he will support you and want you to do well.”

The Toffees will be looking for their first win of the season when they host Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Sunday afternoon, with Young likely to play a key role in the match at Goodison Park.
