Fists flew, as did tables and chairs, as a wild brawl broke out between dozens of patrons in a crowded pub.

Sports fans had ironically gone to watch the UFC on Sunday on the big screen at the Ashley Hotel in Braybrook, Melbourne's west, when two large groups began arguing and taking swipes.

Footage shows punters throwing punches, pushing each other and throwing furniture across the room in a fight that lasted about five minutes.

At one point, the violence spread outside the hotel entrance.

The incident posed a serious danger to frightened customers and staff who helplessly tried to intervene.

The behavior was condemned by martial arts expert Graham Slater.

β€œIt's a certain group, a minority of people who do that,” he told 7News.

β€œIf there was coaching and training, their coaches would teach them discipline and respect.”

It is understood the brawl caused some damage to the venue but no staff were injured.

Witnesses said two groups watched the fighting peacefully for two hours before something sparked the violence.

It was only when the police arrived on the scene that the fighting subsided.

Police are investigating the incident and no arrests have been made so far.
