Ashley Graham Mason: Six-generation apple grower tragically dies in horror quad bike crash

A six-generation apple grower has been identified as the man killed in a quad bike accident.

Ashley Graham Mason, 92, was killed in the Adelaide Hills, with South Australia Police saying the crash happened on a private property in Forest Range about 9am on Friday.

He was taken to hospital in critical condition, but died on Saturday.

Mr. Mason’s family is run by AG & HC Mason, a sixth-generation orchard that produces several apple varieties such as Pink Lady, Granny Smith and Fuji on their 21.9 hectares of land, as reported by The advertiser.

The Mason family were one of the first families to live in Forest Range in the Adelaide Hills and they also produce other fruits.

The quad bike accident took place on Friday (the photo shows the emergency teams on site), but the farmer died in hospital the next day from his injuries.

The grandfather was known for his traditional approach to working in the orchard and did as much as possible by hand.

The orchard is now run by Mr Mason’s son, Noel, and two cousins.

Grant Piggott, CEO of Fruit Producers SA, described the 92-year-old farmer as a “mainstay” of the apple industry and highly respected in the community.

“His family operates one of the best orchards in the state,” Mr. Piggott said The advertiser.

Mr Mason (pictured) is described as an ‘industry stalwart’ who enjoyed doing things in a more traditional way in the orchard

“Our members are saddened by this news and extend their condolences to his family.”

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the Mason family for comment.

A report will be prepared for the state coroner.
