Married teacher, 32, is accused of raping boy, 11, on her bed after sending him nude photos and $700 before she was ‘caught in cops sting telling him she couldn’t get pregnant if they had sex again’

A married teacher is accused of grooming an 11-year-old boy with nude photos and $700 until they had sex on her bed.

Ashley Elizabeth Bardfield, 32, was arrested Wednesday evening in Mt Zion, Illinois, after the boy helped police with a sting operation.

The Decatur Public Schools District sixth grade substitute teacher was recorded telling the boy that they could “do it again” and that she couldn’t get pregnant.

Bardfield was reported to police after the boy’s mother noticed he was “acting differently” after spending the night with the teacher on March 29 and 30.

She searched his phone and reportedly found text messages between him and Bardfield and photos of them, including one of them “turning off the camera.”

The shocked mother also discovered that the teacher had sent her student approximately $700 over several months.

β€œ(She) confronted her child about this situation and the child disclosed that he had engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse with Alley Bardfield on the night of March 29,” according to an arrest affidavit from Mount Zion police.

The mother took him to HSHS St John’s Hospital, where staff administered a rape kit.

Detectives interviewed the boy Wednesday morning and he told them Bardfield took her into his bedroom where they kissed and both took off their clothes.

They then had sex on her bed, which she usually shares with her husband Casey Newton Bardfield, a construction worker.

The affidavit did not explain why the boy was staying with his teacher while her family was away.

The boy also told police that he and Bardfield had allegedly exchanged nude Snapchat photos, the affidavit said.

Police, along with the boy and his mother, devised a plan to get Bardfield to incriminate himself in text messages and recorded conversations with him.

The boy sent her a message saying he was going out of town, but he hoped to see her again when he got back.

‘I love you and I miss you. Alley. When I get back I’ll see if I can stop by,” he wrote.

Bardfield is said to have replied: ‘You are always welcome. I love and miss you too.”

Police obtained a warrant for a wiretap and had the boy call Bardfield later that day, when she told him that “her fallopian tubes are stuck and she can’t get pregnant.”

“The victim asked Alley if he was coming over this weekend… if they could ‘do it again.’ Alley responded β€œYes,” the affidavit continued.

Police arrested Bardfield hours later and she allegedly admitted to the crime, but claimed the boy “made sexual advances toward her.”

Detectives also conducted a “thorough investigation of text messages, social media and a search warrant executed at the suspect’s residence.”

Bardfield was charged with grooming and predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13 years of age.

She was confronted Thursday in Macon County Circuit Court, where she spoke only to confirm she understood, and was told she faced six to 60 years in prison if convicted.

The teacher would also have to register as a sex offender for life.

She has not applied for bail and will remain behind bars until her next court appearance on April 17.

Bardfield and her husband are diehard Chicago Cubs fans and even name two of their four children after Cubs players or related causes.

The boy’s family planned to sue the school district for failing to properly train and supervise staff to ensure the safety and well-being of students.

“Ms. Bardfield’s actions have had a profound and lasting impact on our client, which is likely to result in significant physical, emotional and psychological distress,” their lawyers said in a statement.

β€œAs a result, we will pursue justice not only against Ms. Bardfield, but also against the school district as a whole.”

Bardfield was a longtime substitute teacher for the school district, including DPS District 61 where the alleged victim studied.

The Decatur Public Schools District said she was no longer employed.

β€œWhile none of the alleged conduct occurred at a DPS school, student safety is always our top priority. We are working with the Mount Zion Police Department and providing support to students and staff,” the report said.
