Ash Barty took a job at Optus just a month before the telco’s 10 million customers saw their personal data leaked – and the company now hopes to use its star power to restore their reputation.

Former number one in the world, Barty, is the Optus Chief of Inspiration.

On LinkedIn, Barty described her role at Optus as inspiring the next generation, inspiring action, workplace inspiration, team motivation and golf.

In an official announcement in August, Optus said that in the role, Barty will participate in employee engagement programs and community-based campaigns that aim to connect Australians and inspire them to say ‘yes’ to their dreams, goals and aspirations.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Optus to clarify its role.

During an interview last week, Barty said she will be working with Optus to ensure that Aussies across the country can fulfill their hopes and dreams.

CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin praised Barty’s nomination for the role.

“Delighted to announce that Ash Barty has joined us @Optus as our new Chief of Inspiration!

“We are proud to partner with an inspiring Australian who shares our values and wants to encourage others to unlock the power of ‘yes’. Welcome to the Optus family, Ash!’

Barty’s appointment to the role comes after F1 star Daniel Ricciardo was appointed Optus Chief Optimism Officer in September 2020.

The two sports stars appeared in a bizarre video on a golf course in August to promote Barty’s new job.

At the time, Barty said she wanted to help Australians become “the best version of themselves.”

“Inspiration for me has always been my northern star, helping to inspire Aussies and encouraging them to be the best version of themselves – and I can’t wait to do that with Optus,” she said on the company’s website. Youtube Channel.

Since her shocking retirement in March after a fairytale win at the Australian Open, Barty has had a finger in the pie.

Kelly Rosmarin, the telco’s chief executive, previously said: ‘We are proud to partner with an inspiring Australian who shares our values and wants to encourage others to unlock the power of ‘yes’. Welcome to the Optus family, Ash!’

Ash Barty retired shortly after winning the Australian Open earlier this year

She married her longtime partner Garry Kissick, slid down the famous Fight MND slide in the AFL, did a shoey on Mick Fanning’s charity golf day, released a series of children’s books, and spent a lot of time on the links.

Barty has repeatedly stated that she was not interested in performing at the elite level ever again, although she is clearly capable, as evidenced by her brief Women’s Big Bash League career when she was away from tennis for a while.

Instead, she has moved into the high-flying business world.

“Whether it’s sports or business, the most important thing is to find what makes you happy,” Barty told the paper. Herald Sun when discussing her new role at Optus.

“Sometimes it means that bold or courageous decision, that conscious choice to say yes (Optus’ slogan), and to feel like you’re making a difference.”
