America’s top law enforcement officials couldn’t be clearer: the threat of a terrorist attack in the US is now imminent.
“Every morning we are concerned,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said during a hearing in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
According to him, the risk of a strike has ‘increased enormously’.
FBI Director Christopher Wray – testifying across Capitol Hill in the Senate – issued the same urgent warning, saying US homeland security is in the worst state he has ever seen.
His agency recently disrupted “multiple terrorist attacks in cities and communities across the country,” he revealed.
It was only in December that Wray first publicly sounded the alarm about this growing threat in the wake of Hamas’ October 7 cowardly attack on Israel.
“Given the steady rhythm of calls for attacks by foreign terrorist organizations since October 7, we are working around the clock,” he said at the time.

I also recognized the danger.
From 2004 to 2006, I served as Assistant Director of the FBI’s Criminal Investigation Division.
I am now retired. But in January, I sent an urgent letter — co-signed by 10 other former high-level colleagues — to congressional leaders, urging them to secure the wide-open 1,800-mile southern border.
I understood then—and regretfully admit it now—that terrorist assassins intent on attacking the American homeland may have already infiltrated America, hidden among the more than ten million illegal immigrants who entered the country under Biden’s watch.
And yet our president has wavered, choosing to play politics instead of prioritizing national security.
Just last month, Biden ludicrously declared “white supremacy” “the most dangerous terrorist threat” in America.
Such obvious political pandering by the Commander-in-Chief unnecessarily leads to a waste of resources.
Now the president’s belated and frankly reckless attempt to address the crisis through an executive order is too little, too late.
The October 7 massacre was the most dastardly act of international betrayal since Pearl Harbor – but the conflict it sparked was not intended to be limited to the Middle East.

It is the goal of Hamas, Hezbollah and their blood-stained sponsors in Tehran to export their barbarism to the West.
I rose through the ranks of the FBI and spent 24 years as a special agent and on-the-ground commander of FBI assets in Iraq, where Iranian-sponsored terrorists killed nearly 1,000 Americans.
That work taught me the twisted truth of our enemy’s ideology: their lifeblood is the slavish devotion to eradicating Western civilization – however long that takes.
For the past four decades, Iranian surrogates have tried to entrench themselves in the US, awaiting activation orders. Then America suddenly dropped its defenses.
Biden’s systematic dismantling of border security began on the first day of his administration and it completely overwhelmed law enforcement’s ability to monitor individuals entering the country.
Permissive Democratic policies transformed Border Patrol agents from guards into Walmart greeters who processed thousands of migrants every day.
America’s enemies took notice.
Border officials have reportedly arrested 169 people whose names were on an official terrorist watch list in fiscal year 2023. Compare that to the 98 potential terrorist crossings arrested in 2022 and only 15 in 2021.
And it’s getting worse: There are now more than 1.7 million known “escapees” — illegal immigrants who have evaded Border Patrol entirely — in America since Biden took office.
U.S. intelligence agencies have no idea who is crossing our border, negating decades of intelligence gathering to identify potential threats.
And when you consider that all it takes is three or four trained terrorists to unleash a devastating attack, the consequences are chilling.
Director Wray said as much in his testimony this week, warning: “Increasingly worrying is the potential for a coordinated attack here at home, similar to the ISIS-K attack we saw in the Russian concert hall.”
On March 22, a cell of just four Islamic State savages killed at least 145 people and injured more than 550 others in a music hall outside Moscow.
Moreover, consider the loss of life caused by 19 Al Qaeda terrorists who sneaked into the US and launched the September 11 attacks.
The conflict in Israel has also exposed another insidious threat: a fifth column within American colleges and universities of sympathizers and supporters of designated terrorist organizations.

It is not difficult to imagine violent radicals breeding within these groups.
Add to this overall threat landscape the so-called ‘lone actors’, activated remotely by social media, terrorist propaganda and direct instructions.
The risk to the country is now immeasurable.
All possible U.S. intelligence resources must be mobilized immediately to counter this imminent threat. An eleventh-hour executive border order — full of exceptions and unlikely to be enforced — is not nearly enough.
The FBI and the Department of Homeland Security should be given free rein to go to the southern border to investigate, interview, and document through biometrics any migrant coming from countries identified as terrorist breeding grounds or otherwise hostile to America.
This would have the dual effect of building our human intelligence base and deterring further infiltration.
Our leaders must realize that we have neither the time nor the energy to use our precious assets to advance this administration’s political agenda.
Border security must be restored immediately by ending catch-and-release policies that only encourage illegal border crossings by allowing illegal migrants into the U.S. on the condition that they appear in elusive court hearings half a decade later.
It is also imperative that we bring back Donald Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, which requires migrants to make asylum claims before entering the country.
After September 11, the front door to America – at airports, train stations and sanctioned border crossings – was slammed shut.
Twenty years later, the Biden administration has thrown open the side doors, windows and garage, creating major security problems.
We must protect the homeland or we will suffer the same fate as our friends and allies in Israel.
