Arsenal defender Pablo Mari was ‘stabbed and seriously injured’ in a supermarket in Italy tonight, with one victim dying from his injuries.
The incident is said to have taken place at around 6:30 pm at a Carrefour in the Milanofiori di Assago shopping center.
The 29-year-old, who currently plays for Monza, was one of six people attacked near Milan.
Four men aged 28, 30, 40 and 80 are said to be in serious condition. A cashier rushed to Rozzano, and one has since died.
Two elderly women are said to be in a less serious condition, while Mari was flown to Niguarda Hospital and is conscious.
He has been visited by the director of Monza, Adriano Galliani, and coach Raffaele Palladino.
A 46-year-old man allegedly grabbed a knife from supermarket shelves and then randomly stabbed people.
He has been arrested and detained by the police.
Mikel Arteta said after Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat at PSV Eindhoven: ‘I just found out that I know that Edu has been in contact with his family… he is in hospital, he seems fine. Hopefully he’s okay.’

Mari completed a loaned transfer to Serie A in August for the 2022-23 season after making 22 appearances for the Gunners.
A witness told La Republica: ‘We were at the bar and we thought it was a robbery because we saw some guys and a lady running, then we saw more and more people with angry faces and we realized that something serious had happened.’

Mari spent the second half of last season in Italy on loan with Udinese, where he made 15 appearances.
“Everyone at Arsenal wishes Pablo the best in Italy at AC Monza in this next phase of his career,” a statement on the club’s website said.
“The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.”
