Frida Maanum returned with the Arsenal Women’s team after collapsing during Sunday’s Conti Cup final at Molineux and was in a stable condition, Gunners boss Jonas Eidevall said.

The 24-year-old fell to the ground in the 95th minute and required oxygen during a nine-minute stoppage.

Maanum appeared unresponsive for several minutes when Molineux fell silent while paramedics worked on her. The midfielder was not given CPR before leaving the field on a stretcher with an oxygen mask.

After Arsenal’s 1-0 extra-time win over Chelsea, Eidevall said he had spoken to the Norwegian and revealed she would be joining her teammates on the trip back to London.

“I was able to have a conversation with her, but not from a medical perspective,” he told talkSPORT.

“I just checked with her how she’s doing and told her we won and I have some understanding of the next steps, but I don’t have a medical update.

“She will travel back with the team and we will provide an update afterwards.”

Eidevall was the first to see that Maanum needed urgent treatment before Arsenal left-back Katie McCabe rushed to her side and called for medics to quickly enter the field.

The reason for Maanum’s collapse is still unknown, but it was said that she was reacting and talking after the match and will remain under the supervision of Arsenal’s medical team.

“Frida is conscious, talking and in a stable condition,” the Gunners said in a statement.

‘She will be closely monitored by our medical team. We all agree with you, Frida.’

Stina Blackstenius scored the winner in the 116th minute as Arsenal secured back-to-back League Cups, with Eidevall dedicating the win to Maanum.

“Immediately after the match we don’t care about winning, we care about Frida – that’s the most important thing,” said the Arsenal boss, who was involved in a tense row with Chelsea manager Emma Hayes.

‘But there was nothing we could do to control that situation. We could concentrate on football and we wanted to make Frida a champion.’

England forward Alessia Russo, who came on for Maanum, added: “It’s devastating to see one of your teammates go down like that. We all wish and pray that she is doing well.

‘I think it was written in the stars that her best mate was going to score the winner for her.

‘Frida is a huge player and plays with every part of her body. She did that today. We just hope she’s doing well.”
