Arsenal icon Jack Wilshere is a surprise contender to take over as head coach at Aberdeen, according to reports.
The Scottish Premier League side are keen to take their time with their appointment following the sacking of Barry Robson this week following a tepid 1-1 draw with Dundee at Pittodrie on Tuesday.
His assistant Steve Agnew was also sacked by the board as interim coach Peter Leven prepared to take charge against Celtic on Saturday afternoon.
Among the names in the frame is experienced head coach Neil Warnock, who completed his last managerial appointment at Huddersfield in September.
The legendary journeyman manager is believed to be one of the leading contenders to take on the role, alongside formed Stoke City head coach Alex Neil.

But the former Gunners midfielder could be a surprise candidate for the Scottish club.
From the Daily RecordIt is believed Wilshere applied for the role while still serving as Arsenal Under-18s head coach.
The 32-year-old has been in the role since 2022 and led the side to the FA Youth Cup final last season, where they left as runners-up behind winners West Ham.
But Aberdeen are thought to be less confident about Wilshere’s appointment due to his lack of experience, especially in the wake of a difficult season with Robson.
As a first-team hurler for Aberdeen, it is the second time this season that Wilshere has attempted a senior coaching role in the first team.

Wilshere was among the prospects assessed by MLS side Colorado Rapids last autumn, and the former player was said to have been ‘impressed’ in his interview.
However, the role ultimately went to Chris Armas, who previously coached at MLS clubs Toronto FC and New York Red Bulls, and served as a coaching assistant at Manchester United and Leeds.
