Nick Cushing is a managerial target for Arsenal Women but the club face an uphill battle to lure the 39-year-old from New York City.

Cushing, who has been with the American club since 2020, is among the candidates the Gunners are considering in an ongoing process to replace former head coach Jonas Eidevall.

But Mail Sport understands Cushing is happy and committed to his job in New York and is fully focused on their upcoming play-off journey.

It is understood there has been no direct contact between Arsenal and Cushing and at this stage it is likely he will reject any advances.

Cushing was manager of Manchester City Women between 2013 and 2020.

He won four trophies before leaving to become New York City’s assistant head coach.

Cushing became interim manager in June 2022 before being given the job on a permanent basis later that year.

Arsenal have appointed Renee Slegers in interim charge while a thorough search for a new manager continues.

Slegers is highly respected and experienced and the club is comfortable putting her in charge rather than appointing a suitable candidate.

Eidevall resigned as Arsenal head coach earlier this month after a disappointing start to the season.
