Arsenal release 10 players after missing out on Premier League title… but Mikel Arteta continues negotiations with young star

Arsenal will release 10 players at the end of the month when their contracts expire, including one who made 132 first-team appearances.

The Gunners released a statement on Friday morning to confirm which players will be leaving the club when their deals officially expire.

Among them is Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who has spent the past four seasons on loan at various clubs.

A product of Arsenal’s academy, the 25-year-old has had spells at Ipswich, Roma, West Brom and most recently Southampton.

Maitland-Niles made his debut for the North London club aged 17 in 2014 and would become an established player between 2017 and 2022.

The former England international is joined on his way out by Zach Awe, Joel Ideho, George Lewis, Matt Smith and Tom Smith.

Four scientists, Kaleel Green, Alexandar Kovacevic, Tino Quamina, Mathaeus Roberts, will also leave.

Arsenal ended the announcement with this message to the players, writing: ‘Thank you to all the above players for their contributions to the club during their time with us.

“You will always be part of the Arsenal family and we wish you the very best of health, happiness and success in your future.”

The Gunners are still negotiating with Reiss Nelson over a new contract for the winger

Meanwhile, the club gave fans an update on the situation with Reiss Nelson, saying that ‘negotiations are ongoing’.

Nelson’s contract also expires on 30 June 2023, but there is increasing optimism that he will stay at the club.
