Arsenal make a breakthrough in contract talks with Reiss Nelson

Arsenal reach breakthrough talks with Reiss Nelson… with the 23-year-old agreeing in principle to a great new deal worth significantly more than his current £60,000-a-week package

  • Reiss Nelson is close to signing a new contract to stay at Arsenal
  • Staying in the Emirates has always been the 23-year-old’s preferred choice
  • He has agreed in principle to a new deal, which includes a substantial wage increase

Reiss Nelson is expected to sign a new contract with Arsenal following a breakthrough in talks over an extension.

The Gunners striker’s existing contract expires at the end of this month, when he can leave the Emirates Stadium on a free transfer.

Nelson has turned down at least two contract offers this season and looked set to leave Arsenal.

But there has been a breakthrough in negotiations with Nelson, who has agreed in principle on a new deal.

Barring any last-minute issues, Nelson will sign a long-term contract – initially for four years.

Mikel Arteta is keen to keep the young star and he looks set to fulfill his wish in the coming weeks

It includes a significant increase from his current deal, which is worth around £60,000 a week.

Brighton, Fulham, Aston Villa and AC Milan were among the clubs interested in a free transfer from Nelson.

Nelson’s preference has always been to stay at Arsenal, despite playing a largely peripheral role this season.

He made 18 appearances during the 2022–23 season, but part of his season was hampered by injury.
