Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has somewhat surprisingly come to the defense of Manchester City over their legal battle with the Premier League.

City faces 115 charges related to alleged Financial Fair Play violations between 2009 and 2018.

A landmark verdict in a separate, unrelated case saw the reigning champions secure a huge win earlier this month, as reported by Mail Sport’s Mike Keegan.

A panel of retired judges ruled that the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules relating to their owners breach the Competition Act.

The process is expected to take months and Wenger believes the whole situation has gone too far.

Arsene Wenger has urged the Premier League to change the Financial Fair Play rules

He told beIN SPORTS: ‘I think the rules of Financial Fair Play should be changed in the Premier League today.

‘Because they now face competition from other leagues, which have changed their Financial Fair Play rules.

‘At the moment you can’t hear of a club like Man City being charged 115 different charges in a football season. I don’t believe in that.

‘The Premier League has already lost a case, the first case against them. I don’t know them [City]I can’t rate them.

‘I just think that 115 different charges against a football club today seems like we are in an international board.

‘The rules for Financial Fair Play must be changed and simplified.
