Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is rewarded with a new long-term contract after impressive performances this season… with Mikel Arteta delighted with his progress since joining from Sheffield United for £24million

  • He has 13 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, behind only De Gea’s 15

Arsenal intend to hand goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale a new long-term contract as a reward for a string of fine displays.

The 24-year-old England star has 13 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, behind only David de Gea’s 15, to help the Gunners title contender.

And the club is keen to emphasize that with an increase in its current £60,000-a-week deal.

Having played three caps, Ramsdale has become a firm fan favorite, winning over supporters who questioned the wisdom of his £24 million signing from Sheffield United in 2021.

He played in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Newcastle last Sunday and made a string of excellent saves. Manager Mikel Arteta said afterwards: ‘He’s been brilliant.

Ramsdale’s England compatriot Bukayo Saka is also on the verge of a new deal, while Arsenal are also pushing to sign French centre-back William Saliba.
