Arsenal have received a boost in signing Martin Odegaard, with the midfielder likely to be fit for next weekend’s match against Brentford.

Odegaard was struggling with a hip problem and subsequently missed Arsenal’s match against Burnley after being hit in the face with a ball during training.

The Arsenal captain was then left out of the Norwegian squad for matches against the Faroe Islands and Scotland so he could build up his fitness with Arsenal.

Norwegian boss Stale Solbakken has now provided an encouraging update on Odegaard’s situation.

As reported by The mirrorSolbakken said at a press conference: ‘I just came back from a 45-minute conversation with Martin. He’s getting better and better and gradually he’s getting better and better.

‘It’s about three weeks without any special training, so it’s important to take it step by step. Both he and Arsenal will probably hope he is available for the match against Brentford.”

Arsenal will hope to have Odegaard available as they prepare for a hectic schedule.

So far this season, Odegaard has made 15 appearances for Arsenal, scoring five goals and providing one assist.

Odegaard missed the games against Newcastle and Sevilla due to concussion but is now closing in on a return to action.

Arsenal are currently without Thomas Partey due to a thigh injury, while Fabio Vieira is suspended following his red card against Burnley. Emile Smith Rowe is sidelined with a knee injury.

Mikel Arteta’s team is in third place in the Premier League, one point behind leaders Manchester City.
