Arsenal supporters have expressed their anger at Son Heung-min after the striker missed a brilliant one-on-one chance in Tottenham’s defeat to Manchester City.

City emerged 2-0 winners after a thrilling encounter and surpassed Arsenal to return to the top of the Premier League ahead of the final day of the season.

Erling Haaland scored both goals for Pep Guardiola’s champions-elect either side of Son who burst into City’s penalty area and headed towards Stefan Ortega’s goal.

Guardiola admitted he feared City’s title chances were over when Son struck the net, but Ortega saved the visitors with a heroic, long-range save low on the pitch.

That set the tone for City’s second goal, a penalty in stoppage time, forcing the Arsenal faithful to face the reality that their title bid looked all but shattered.

However, the resignation quickly gave way to anger after Son was caught on camera laughing with Guardiola on the pitch after the final whistle.

“He will never win a trophy in his life,” said one X user.

Another stated that Son had missed on purpose, writing: “These are facts. He had a half open net, close to the post. An easy opportunity for any PL [Premier League] footballer to score, but he chose the far post when the angle was reduced…’

“Look at this muppet laughing with the captain’s armband on,” another added. ‘Fkn pathetic. No wonder Inge [Postecoglou] said what he said. They don’t deserve you, Ange. You want to win. They want to lose.’

“Embarrassing isn’t the right word,” another account wrote.

“They paid these two well,” said a fifth.

Eagle-eyed supporters also spotted Spurs defender Cristian Romero sharing a lighthearted moment with Guardiola, who lightly punched him in the chest.

The defender looked delighted after the short conversation.

City look on course to win their record fourth consecutive Premier League title on Sunday. They will win the league if they beat West Ham at the Etihad.

Arsenal, who play Everton in the final, are two points behind second place.

On Ortega’s breathtaking stop, Guardiola said: ‘He saves us, otherwise Arsenal will be champions. That’s the reality. The margins are so tight. Son’s rescue.

‘It was incredible. One on one, Stefan is one of the best goalkeepers I have seen in my life. It’s German culture: get up, don’t fall.’
