Arsenal face anxious wait for update on Bukayo Saka’s fitness with winger to ‘undergo a scan’ after limping off in England’s defeat by Greece

Arsenal are eagerly awaiting the fitness of Bukayo Saka.

The winger had to be substituted in the 51st minute of England’s 2-1 defeat to Greece at Wembley on Thursday evening.

Saka looked uncomfortable as he held the back of his right leg.

As reported by The Evening Standardthe 23-year-old will undergo a scan to determine the extent of the injury.

England interim manager Lee Carsley was asked about Saka after the match and said: ‘He is under assessment. In the run-up to the first goal you could see that he felt something in his leg.’

Carsley could provide a further update on Saka when he holds a press conference on Saturday ahead of England’s match against Finland on Sunday.

Saka could miss the game against Finland, but Arsenal will be more concerned about his availability after the international break.

Arsenal will take on Bournemouth on October 19 before hosting Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League three days later. Mikel Arteta will be particularly keen to have Saka available for the home match against Liverpool on October 27.

Saka, who has captained Arsenal at times this season while Martin Odegaard was injured, has had a hugely productive start to the season.

He has scored three goals in all competitions and provided seven assists in the Premier League.

After losing Odegaard to an ankle injury while representing Norway during the international break, Arsenal are hoping for better news on Saka.

Defenders Ben White, Jurrien Timber and Oleksandr Zinchenko were all absent from Arsenal’s most recent match against Southampton.

Arsenal currently sit third in the Premier League, one point behind leaders Liverpool.
