BREAKING NEWS: Arsenal confirm defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will be out for the rest of the SEASON after undergoing knee surgery, in a blow to boss Mikel Arteta’s title chasers.
Arsenal have announced that defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.
Tomiyasu limped off in the ninth minute of the Gunners’ Europa League loss to Sporting Club de Portugal on Thursday.
And Mikel Arteta’s team have confirmed that he has suffered a “major knee injury” that puts an end to his campaign.
The club said in a statement on its website: ‘Following his substitution during last Thursday’s Europa League match, further assessments have confirmed that Takehiro Tomiyasu sustained a significant injury to his right knee.
‘Tomi underwent successful surgery in London on Tuesday and will be ruled out for the remainder of this season.
“Everyone at the club will now work hard with Tomi, so that he can join pre-season training before next season.”
