Ramsdale reached down to pick up his water bottle and the fan appeared to kick Arsenal’s number 1 in the back.

Ramsdale and his teammates were furious at what happened.

Speaking about the event after the game, Ramsdale said: ‘The Spurs fans were giving me a bit of crack in the second half, and I gave them a bit back.

Ramsdale’s teammates jumped up to defend him before escorting the goalie away.

“The few people I gave it to were probably well received, in a sporting manner.” But then a fan jumped up and gave me a little punch in the back.

The goalkeeper added: “That’s what happened, and it’s a shame because in the end it’s just a football game.”

Meanwhile, Eric Dier added: “I didn’t see it, but it’s obviously unacceptable and it shouldn’t have happened.” There’s nothing more I can say.

Meanwhile, the PFA issued the following statement: ‘Violence towards players is completely unacceptable. These types of incidents happen all too often.

‘Gamers have the right to be safe in their workplace. When a player is attacked, we expect that the laws and regulations in place to protect them are applied correctly.

“As a players union we treat this as a priority issue. We will continue to work with the authorities to demand that players and staff are better protected in their workplace.”
