Arsenal 2-1 Tottenham – PLAYER RATINGS: Which Gunners star looked lost? Who was Mikel Arteta’s engine? And which Spurs defender was tormented?
Arsenal came from behind to beat their north London rivals Tottenham 2-1 and move to within four points of leaders Liverpool.
Son Heung-min stunned the Emirates by putting Spurs ahead with the help of a deflection, but Arsenal hit back with two goals within four minutes to take the break.
Gabriel’s header deflected off Dominic Solanke to bring the Gunners level before Leandro Trossard fired past Antonin Kinsky with his weaker left foot.
Arsenal had more chances to put the game to bed, but their profligacy in front of goal was again a problem, leading to a nerve-wracking finish. But the Gunners managed to hold on for a crucial win.
So, who were the standout players at the Emirates, and who had a night to forget?
Mail Sport’s ISAAN KHAN was on hand to take his look at both sets of players…
Leandro Trossard scored the winner as Arsenal came from behind to beat Tottenham
It was another disappointing evening for Ange Postecoglou as his side left the Emirates empty-handed
ARSENAL (4-3-3)
DAVID RAYA 6.5 – Composed on the ball as usual. Unfortunately, he was beaten by Son Heung-min, with the ball ricocheting off William Saliba’s leg.
JURRIEN WOOD 6.5 – He is keen to get forward and is happy to advance the ball, with Raheem Sterling often getting stuck on what to do.
WILLEM SALIBA 6.5 – He turned his back on Son Heung-min’s attack, with the ball ricocheting off his leg and into the goal.
GABRIEL 8 – His header, which went in via Dominic Solanke, was a big goal. The Brazilian’s prowess from set pieces is once again on display for Arsenal.
MYLES LEWIS-SKELY 7.5 – Didn’t go under pressure and made some strong forays into midfield. Another promising showing.
MARTIN ODEGAARD 7 – Nice touches and silky playing throughout. I was not deterred by the first moments of debauchery on the front lines.
THOMAS PARTY 7 – His tackle led to Arsenal’s second goal. A bit stiff at times, but it did a good job of splitting up the game.
DECLAN RICE 8.5 – An engine in the middle. Created opportunities in attack and made important tackles. His corner before Gabriel’s header was right on the money.
Gabriel scored an important goal via a deflection and was a colossus at the back
Declan Rice put in a powerful performance in midfield for the hosts
RAHEEM STERLING 5 – He looked lost when he received the ball and kept looking for a sideways pass as a way out.
KAI HAVERTZ 6 – Involvement in Arsenal’s overall play was limited. But did well to intercept Antonin Kinsky a few times, which set the tone.
LEANDRO TROSSARD 7.5 – Score a well-taken goal, after a point that leaves the opponent’s defense in its wake. I kept taking Pedro Porro and it paid off.
REPLACEMENTS
Martinelli 6 (for Sterling 61min)
Tierney N/A (for Trossard 77)
Zinchenko N/A (for Lewis-Skelly 87)
Merino N/A (for Rice 87)
Manager
MIKEL ARTETA 6.5 – I desperately needed a win after a recent torrid run – and crucially got it.
TOTTENHAM (4-3-3)
ANTONIN KINSKY 5 – What a difference a week makes. Last Wednesday he was praised for his performance against Liverpool. This Wednesday he was unmasked. Should have done better for Trossard’s offense and had a few throws away by Kai Havertz.
Antonin Kinsky looked nervous on the ball and should have done better for the winning goal
PEDRO PORRO 5.5 – Beaten a number of times by Leandro Trossard. His counterpart enjoyed tormenting him.
RADU DRAGUSIN 5.5 – Made a decent block early. But, crucially, he was beaten by Gabriel for his header, putting Arsenal back into the match.
ARCHIE GRAY 6.5 – Was harassed a number of times by the opposition, but remained calm in possession. Point head on young shoulders.
DJED SPENCE 7 – Made life difficult for Raheem Sterling. Stayed in position and played a sublime entry cross for Dominic Solanke.
Djed Spence was Tottenham’s standout defender and he kept Raheem Sterling quiet

YVES BISSOUMA 6 – Spurs needed more of him in the middle. Crocheted during half time.
PAPE SARR 6 – A couple of nice runs forward to break up the game. His corner led to Spurs’ opening goal.
LUCAS BERGVALL 7 – Energetic and well established. A growing talent and a strong presence in midfield for Spurs.
DEJAN KULUSEVSKI 6 – Good tracking back. He didn’t get the ball enough in the final third to cause the damage he is capable of.
DOMINIC SOLANKE 6 – Had a great chance early in the match, which was cleared away by Gabriel. Other than that it was quiet the whole time.
SON HEUNG-MIN 6.5 – Scored with his first shot of the match, off a deflection, to give Spurs the lead against the run of play.
Son Heung-min put Spurs ahead, but they were unable to maintain their lead
REPLACEMENTS
Johnson 6 (for Sarr 46min)
Maddison 6 (for Bissouma 46)
Richarlison N/A (for son 78)
Manager
ANGE POSTECOGLOU 6 – His team, despite their resistance in parts, was under scrutiny from the start.
