  • De Bruyne hit the crossbar with his penalty as Aaron Ramsdale saved Rodri’s

Arsenal won the Community Shield on penalties after Kevin de Bruyne and Rodri missed from the spot in a shoot-out.

Arsenal’s new signing Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber all started but failed to make a real impact as Man City triumphed.

Havertz tested Stefan Ortega twice in the first half, but was unable to capitalize on any of his chances.

The breakthrough came after Pep Guardiola made several changes, with De Bruyne and Palmer coming on and the pair working together to secure victory for Man City as Palmer converted for the Citizens in the 77th minute.

However, there was drama at the very end, with Leandro Trossard scoring the equalizer in the 11th minute of stoppage time.

With the clash en route to a penalty shoot-out, it was De Bruyne first for City, following the conversion of Martin Odegaard – and the Belgian smashed his effort against the crossbar.

Goalscorer Trossard then followed and sent Ortega the wrong way to convert his penalty before Bernardo Silva followed and did the same.

Bukayo Saka scored his effort calmly while Arsneal was in control.

It was Rodri’s turn for City, but saw his effort saved by Aaron Ramsdale before Fabio Vieira hit his shot into the top corner to give Arteta’s side victory.
