Arnold Schwarzenegger, 76, discusses recovering from his third open heart surgery in 2018: ‘You collect yourself, shift gears’
Arnold Schwarzenegger called on his friends to pep him up after his open heart surgery in 2018 and now he’s using that experience to pep up his fans.
The 76-year-old actor shared his recovery story in a YouTube video that is part of his Arnold’s Pump Club.
The action star, who discovered that Peter Dinklage’s stunt double can pack a “punch,” is offering a free daily email to fans looking to get fit.
“I remember having my open heart surgery, the third,” the FUBAR star told the camera, revealing it took place in 2018, a few months before he was due to begin Terminator six.
The movie was released in 2019 as Terminator: Dark Fate.

The actor revealed he would be undergoing a non-invasive procedure to replace a heart valve, but says when he came to, the doctor admitted it had turned into a big thing.
He says the surgeon told him, “We made a mistake and pierced the heart wall…and we had to open you real quick to save your life.”
After recovering from the shocking news of what he called “a disaster,” Arnold seemed to take the bad news on his chin and focus on the next steps.
“You collect yourself, switch gears and say, ‘Okay, what do I have to do now is I have to leave this hospital?'”
His answer was to follow the doctor’s advice and start walking as soon as possible.
“The doctor said, ‘You have to train your lungs, because if you get pneumonia, you can die.’
The Kindergarten Cop star shared footage as he pushed a walker through the corridors of the hospital, wearing yellow non-slip socks and a blue and white hospital gown.
Not wanting to be alone, the former governor of California explained, “I called my friends and said, ‘You guys have to urge me on, you have to count the number of steps I take.”

The video shows the bodybuilder and his friends taking slow steps as he slowly began to build strength.
“And this is what we did every day,” he said. “Everyone came into the hospital and said, ‘Okay Arnold, get up, let’s go down the hall.’
The Expendable star said it was important to have a good support system, “because we can’t do all of this alone.”
After being released from the hospital, Arnold went to the gym to train for his health and his upcoming movie role.
