Arne Slot expects Mo Salah to continue scoring for Liverpool for a ‘long time’, despite the Egyptian’s contract being stuck.

Salah played an important role in his side’s comeback against Newcastle. He provided an assist for Curtis Jones and scored two excellent goals in a thrilling 3-3 draw at St James’ Park.

The Premier League’s top scorer – who took his tally to 13, overtaking Erling Haaland – revealed last week that he has yet to receive a contract offer from Liverpool despite his contract expiring next summer.

But Slot said: ‘Every time we need him he scores an important goal. We hope and expect that he can keep this up for a long time.

‘He is in a very good place, in a very good team that offers him opportunities. And what makes him even more special is that he didn’t play his best game in the first hour and then he comes with an assist, two goals, a shot against the crossbar. Special player and an excellent performance.’

Salah gave an impressive interview to a group of reporters after Liverpool beat Southampton at St Mary’s last week, where he revealed he was ‘disappointed’ at the lack of progress in negotiations over a new deal and said he was ‘more out than in’ was at Anfield.

Arne Slot has revealed he is hopeful Salah will stay at Liverpool and score goals ‘for a long time’

Salah is approaching the final six months of his Liverpool contract and recently claimed he is ‘more out than in’ at Anfield

“We are almost in December and I have not received any offers to stay at the club yet,” Salah said. “I’m probably outside more than inside.”

He also spoke about his contract situation after Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday, saying he is making the most of his ‘home’ at Anfield.

“It’s very special,” said the 32-year-old. ‘I said before: I don’t take it for granted. I’m enjoying every minute here. It feels like home. So yeah, it’s a special feeling. It’s always about scoring at Anfield and winning games.

‘Of course, to be honest, in my head it was like this was my problem so far, the last City game I played for Liverpool, so I’m just going to enjoy it.

‘The atmosphere was great, so I’m enjoying every second here. And yes, finally we will (hopefully) just win the competition and see what will happen.’

Liverpool are reportedly set to offer Virgil van Dijk a new contract soon, and Salah is expected to follow suit.

Slot will be hoping Salah is prepared to accept this after coming to Liverpool’s rescue again on Wednesday evening to ensure they leave Newcastle with a draw and seven points clear at the top of the table.
