Armored Core 6: Fire of Rubicon off to a mech-tastic start, with over 156,000 concurrent players in its debut weekend, making it the fifth biggest launch of 2023 and FromSoftware’s best launch weekend ever, after the mighty Elder Ring.

According to SteamDB (through GameRant), Armored core 6 was Steam’s ninth most played game in the past 24 hours, meaning it attracted more players this weekend than blockbuster titles like FIFA 23, Rainbow Six Siege, And Team Fortress 2.

Of all the games released so far in 2023 alone Resident Evil 4, Sons of the Forest, Baldur’s Gate 3, And Hogwarts legacy sport higher simultaneous launch peaks and of course that number doesn’t take into account the thousands of players that are stuck on the console.

How does it compare to other FromSoft titles? According to Okami Games and SteamDB, Armored core 6 goes straight to the silver spot with 150K concurrent players, with Sekiro: Shadows die twice And Dark Souls 3 bring in 125K and 129K respectively.

Curious if it lives up to the hype? We gave the mechtastic Armored core 6 three out of five stars, praising the responsive and satisfying combat, the deep mech customization, and the exciting and varied missions. However, ours Armored core 6 judgement says the mech game falls short due to unsatisfying boss encounters and the “shocking addition of soul-borne mechanics”.

Armored Core 6: Fire of Rubicon offers slick and well-polished mech combat fundamentals, watered down by the addition of ill-fitting, soul-worn mechanics that fail to compliment the mech pilot’s fantasy,” we wrote in the review.

“While there’s a lot to enjoy for fans of the series, newcomers will encounter a lopsided experience that doesn’t quite capture the series’ full potential. Armored core series.”
