Arkansas teen held on murder charge after fatal shooting outside party after high school prom
HELENA-WEST HELENA, Ark. — An Arkansas teenager is in custody charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a high school student outside a party early Sunday after a high school prom.
Donterious Stephens, 19, of Helena, turned himself in to authorities Sunday afternoon after the shooting of 18-year-old Lorenzo Harrison III, an Arkansas State Police spokeswoman said.
Harrison, a senior at Helena-West Helena’s Central High School, was shot and killed at an off-campus party after prom. Helena-West Helena is located approximately 53 miles southwest of Memphis, Tennessee, along the Mississippi River.
Stephens was being held Sunday in the Phillips County Jail, according to an inmate roster. It was not clear Sunday afternoon whether he had an attorney representing him or when he would make his first court appearance. Stephens had previously graduated from the school, state police said.
The party was attended by other students, but police could not say how many people attended. No one else was injured in the shooting.
