Arkansas teacher 44 sentenced to 58 days in jail after admitting to having sex with 17-year-old student

An award-winning Arkansas teacher has been sentenced to prison after admitting to having a sexual relationship with a student.

Leah Queen, 44, pleaded guilty to assault earlier this week after previously pleading not guilty.

Queen, an Oklahoma native, was a physical education teacher at Gentry Intermediate School in Gentry, near Fayetteville.

The attack happened 13 years ago in 2010, when the high school student was 17 and Queen was 31.

Although the age of consent in Arkansas is 16, teachers are not allowed to have sexual relations with students until they are 18 years old.

The former student explained in court documents how sexual contact between them began in the summer of 2010.

An affidavit told of how Queen befriended the victim after a basketball game and when the pair began socializing outside of school hours.

Queen’s ex also reported seeing the victim sharing a bed with his ex-wife on several occasions.

Benton County Circuit Judge Brad Karren sentenced Queen to six years of state probation and sentenced her to 58 days in Benton County jail.

She was also ordered not to have any contact with the victim.
