Arkansas fans DEFEND Fernando Carmona’s disgusting ankle stomp amid calls for lifetime ban

Arkansas fans have jumped to the defense of offensive tackle Fernando Carmona days after the Razorback junior disgustedly stomped on an opponent’s ankle during Friday’s bowl game.

Carmona’s name was in the news for more than 72 hours after he stomped his right foot on the ankle of Texas Tech player CJ Baskerville.

You could see Baskerville on the ground, apparently still on the ground after making a tackle last week in Memphis.

At that moment, Carmona purposefully stomped on Baskerville’s ankle, pushing all his weight onto his opponent’s leg.

The act sparked outrage online with Baskerville and fans calling out Carmona for the disgusting act.

There has now been a pushback in favor of Carmona, made up of Arkansas fans, believing the act was unintentional or not as bad as everyone else claimed.

“I don’t know anything about this… Carmona steps over a player, then lands on the other player’s ankle and rises. And then Braylen (Russell) and a Tech player laugh. Then the player with the injury gets up and starts walking again. I don’t know, if it was that big of a deal you would think other Tech players would have stepped in to help,” said one Razorback fan.

“Yeah look, it looks like he was trying to use his right leg to scare people away and he stepped on the foot. If the technical players thought it was intentional during the game, they would have started pushing immediately. That’s what 99% of players do when they feel disrespected in a game.”

“I’m not sure #55 can even see where his feet are landing,” another Arkansas fan said on social media, despite the video of Carmona looking where his feet are being planted the entire time.

“I defend my guy to the fullest,” said user @RVZORBVCK, showing his loyalty.

Carmona himself took to social media to apologize for the piece, two days after it happened.

The redshirt junior’s original post after the game thanked his teammates and made no mention of the disgusting punch.

“I would like to apologize for my actions last Friday night at the Liberty Bowl. I let my emotions get away from me. I have nothing but respect for Texas Tech and the game of football. My apologies to my team and coaches. I’m not that kind of player and will learn from this,” Carmona said on X.

The Razorbacks have not made an official statement on the matter, nor have officials from the Southeastern Conference or Liberty Bowl.

Baskerville himself posted two videos of the incident on

“But #55 Fernando Carmona shamelessly stepping on my ankle and putting pressure on it on purpose is downright gross.

“Goes on to say, ‘I got your b**** a***.’ Do better @RazorbackFB.”
