Arizona State star Cam Skattebo reveals why he was ‘vomiting profusely’ during dramatic Texas loss
Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo has blamed a dodgy croissant sandwich after throwing up on the sidelines during this week’s Peach Bowl.
But the 22-year-old claimed the disgusting act was the spark that allowed him to spark a remarkable Sun Devils comeback against Texas.
Arizona State lost a thriller 39-31 overtime despite fourth-quarter heroics from Skattebo, who finished fifth in last month’s Heisman Trophy voting.
The running back threw one touchdown and ran for two more scores just minutes after “vomiting violently” on the bench.
On Thursday, Skattebo explained the cause of his illness: narrating the Dan Patrick Show: ‘I think I drank a little too much Powerade and water.
‘At the same time, I think I ate something wrong in the morning. I had a croissant sandwich and I don’t think it went very well.

‘I wasn’t feeling well in the run-up to the match until I threw up… I felt like a completely different person. Then the game changed for me.”
Midway through the fourth quarter, Skattebo and Arizona finally managed to get their first touchdown on the board.
On fourth-and-2 from the Texas 42-yard line, Skattebo took a pitch and then threw a pass to Malik McClain.
The Sun Devils then secured the two-point conversion to make the score 24-16 with 6:31 left.
That was not the end of his exploits. After a Quinn Ewers interception, Skattebo caught a 62-yard pass from Sam Leavitt.
He then capped off the drive by making his way into the end zone to cut the lead to 24-22 before tying the game by scoring the two-point conversion.
Skattebo also put his team ahead with a three-yard touchdown run to start overtime against No. 4 Texas.
He finished with two rushing touchdowns and eight receptions for 99 yards.

The Sun Devils’ comeback ultimately fell short as they suffered an overtime loss to Texas
The Sun Devils couldn’t upset the Longhorns, however, as an interception by Andrew Makuba finally ended a Peach Bowl quarterfinal classic in double overtime.
Arizona was on the verge of winning when Texas faced fourth-and-13 on its first possession of overtime.
But Quinn Ewers saw Matthew Golden break free behind two defenders and run in a 28-yard touchdown.
After moving to the other side of Mercedes-Benz Stadium, on the next play, Ewers threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Gunnar Helms, followed by a two-point conversion pass to Golden.
The Longhorns finally put away Arizona State (11-3) when Makuba picked off Sam Leavitt’s pass at the 3 to end the game.
