Arizona State football fan arrested during field storming for going after BYU coaches following huge victory

During the chaos of Arizona State football fans storming the field after the blowout win over BYU, one of the Sun Devils faithful was arrested on the sideline for going after the Cougars coaches.

Arizona State defeated BYU 28-23 in the battle of ranked teams atop the Big 12 Conference.

The Sun Devils’ win puts them atop the standings and on the inside track to a spot in the conference championship game, and thus an automatic spot in the College Football Playoff.

One of the Arizona State fans who tried to give victory to the losing visitors from Provo, Utah, was dragged from the Cougars’ contingent during the celebration and knocked onto the lawn by three police officers.

The fan, wearing a maroon Pat Tillman No. 42 jersey, resisted arrest for several seconds before being overpowered and taken to the ground.

The exact charges presented to the fan are unclear, although field rushers are found in nature on private property.

As the Sun Devils fan was taken to the ground, Cougars staffers nearby looked on, along with some in the crowd and on the field cheering the situation.

Arizona State is in the midst of its best season in a decade in the second season of Kenny Dillingham’s tenure, rebuilding years ahead of schedule.

Eight Big 12 teams still have a mathematical chance of making it to the conference championship game, with a Cougars-Sun Devils rematch still the most likely scenario.

If Arizona State beats rival Arizona next week, it will automatically advance to the conference championship game in its first year in the Big 12.

BYU has now lost two games in a row after winning its first nine games to start the season.
