Arizona Muse declares herself an ‘activist first and model second’ but admits her outspoken beliefs about sustainable fashion have negatively ‘affected her income’
Arizona Muse has declared herself an “activist model,” but says her strong views on sustainability and environmentalism “directly impact” her income within the fashion industry.
The American model, 36, revealed that she is so strong in her care for the planet that she rejects work from brands that do not have a positive impact on the environment.
Arizona has even launched its own charity, Dirt, which helps create silk, wool and leather for the fashion industry without the use of harmful chemicals.
She told me Elle Spain: ‘I am no longer a model, I am an activist model and I am bringing this to its final conclusion. I’ve been scared at times because this obviously limits the brands and actions you can take and it also directly affects your income, and we all work for the money, but I made a decision and I stuck to it ‘.
“I’m proud of it and I think it brings me value too, so I don’t work with brands whose impact is not positive.”
Arizona went on to explain that she only started her modeling career “by accident” and that the fashion industry was never something she “fantasized about dedicating her life to.”

Arizona welcomed her first child Nikko, 14, with fashion stylist and former flame Manuel Quintana when she was 20.
The couple eventually split and three years ago she married osteopath Boniface Verney-Carron, and welcomed a daughter with him in late 2018.
Arizona announced the arrival of her daughter by sharing an adorable photo of her snuggling next to the newborn in November 2018.
Speak with City and country magazine, the Arizona previously reflected on being a young parent.
She said, “I don’t know what it’s like to be a twenty-year-old who doesn’t have a child. I loved having Nikko.
‘He was like a doll. “I was a kid myself and it was an ‘ignorance is bliss’ situation.”
Arizona honestly admitted that her reasoning for the marriage was especially meaningful to her since Nikko “is not in a relationship” with her ex-fiancé Manuel.
She said: ‘It meant a lot to me to get married. Especially because I already had a child who has no relationship with his father.’

Arizona fought on because she feared her career would disappear if she took time off.
It caused her enormous amounts of stress that she “suffered every day for years.”
She added, “I probably needed some time off, but I was stuck in this cycle of anxiety.”
