After coaching his team to a World Series loss, Arizona Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo now wants to suck his thumb and eat ice cream away from the public eye.
His team suffered a 5-0 Game 5 loss on Wednesday night, leaving them in an impossible position at 4-1 in the World Series, leading to the Texas Rangers securing their first-ever championship.
‘I want to run away and hide for a few days. I want to go camping and just sit in the tent, suck my thumb and eat ice cream,” Lovullo said in the aftermath of the heartbreaking loss.
“Is that the weirdest answer you’ve ever had?” And just let it happen as it should.
“Hurt when I need to hurt, cry when I need to cry, feel good when I need to feel good.”

Lovullo has been the Diamondbacks’ manager since 2017, with his first season and this season representing his only postseason appearances leading the franchise.
Two years ago, the Diamondbacks finished with a 52-110 record. Despite that low point, the team’s front office has stuck by him.
Arizona improved this season and needed a pair of comeback wins to advance out of the Wild Card round against the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Diamondbacks were heavy underdogs to both the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies in the next two rounds of the playoffs.

Arizona defeated the 100-win Dodgers in the NLDS and came back from 2-0 and 3-2 series deficits against the Phillies to win the National League pennant.
That all came to a screeching halt against the Rangers, who defeated the Diamondbacks in five games to end their first World Series appearance in 22 years on a somber note.
“This is painful,” Lovullo said. “This is just painful, and I can’t completely get over it right now.”
