Ariana Grande reveals unexpected star made her fear she was ‘being catfished’ when they invited her over

Ariana Grande revealed she feared she was being ‘catfished’ after receiving a message from English singer and songwriter Imogen Heap.

When asked if she’ll ever be “starstruck,” the Wicked star, 31, hilariously recalled her first interactions with Heap, 47, who she described as “brilliant in every way.”

‘Imogen Heap is my idol, my favorite musician, songwriter and producer of all time. The first time I got a message from her I thought I was being catfished,” the singer admitted W magazine.

Grande previously recorded a remake of Heap’s song Goodnight and Go on her album Sweetener.

In 2018, Heap confirmed this Billboard that she and Grande had met “a few times” before and that she had seen the superstar’s covers of her work before.

“I think her mom somehow emailed me for her 21st birthday and said, ‘Can Ariana come over for dinner?’ So she came to my house in the middle of the countryside on the outskirts of London and I didn’t have my mobile on so I couldn’t hear her calling and they were totally lost walking up and down this weird back street of the countryside’, Grande recalled.

She continued, “I think Ariana really thought it was a big set-up where she was going to get killed. Finally I opened the door and there she was. I knew she was coming, so I cooked her some lentils because she’s vegan.”

In 2014, Grande told Seventeen that she would “love to collaborate with” Heap, who she said was her “favorite artist of all time.”

“I love her,” the singer said. “Everything she’s ever released, I’ve completely devoured and learned every lyric, every harmony, every part. She has inspired me immensely over the years and I would love to work with her if I could get through the session without crying or having a breakdown and crying my eyes out.”

During her latest interview with W Magazine, Grande also spoke about her love of The Wizard of Oz as a child.

“I sat in front of the TV in my gingham dress and studied Judy Garland’s body movements, how she held herself and Toto. My first impersonation was maybe Judy Garland,” she said.

Grande continued, “I have always been fascinated by sounds, tones, and different accents. My first memory is singing with my mother in the car to Barbra Streisand or *NSYNC or Over the Rainbow. I can’t remember a time when singing wasn’t part of my life.’

She also mused on a memory of herself “watching The Wizard of Oz in the gingham dress paired with a Scream mask.”

When asked why a Scream mask, Grande explained that it was her “creative vision for it.”

‘I said, “I have to put a twist on this and wear it with a Jason mask or a Scream mask” or something. But I was a big music fan in general. This is kind of controversial to say, but I loved Avenue Q even though it won the Tony for Best Musical over Wicked. But of course Wicked is my number one,” she told the outlet.

The former child star, who found fame as Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon sitcom Victorious, also revealed that her first acting gig was as a “bumblebee in a school play.”

‘I spontaneously did a piece on stage for which I had not asked the teacher permission. I ripped the stinger off my costume and stabbed one of my fellow actors. I must have been about five or six years old,” Grande said.

As for whether there’s a movie that makes her cry, the singer said The Waterboy, starring Adam Sandler, makes her cry.

“When they’re mean to Bobby Boucher, I cry. I don’t like it. I love Bobby Boucher. He says, ‘Will you please still be my friend?’ and I lose it. But I cry about everything,” she explained.

Grande also stated that her favorite reality show is Love Is Blind.

“I just love that series,” she said, before noting that she “sometimes checks” to see if they are still together on Instagram.
