Argentinian referee who dismissed Scotland’s penalty claim against Hungary is ‘AXED’ from EURO 2024 along with his VAR… after Steve Clarke raged at the decision, asking ‘why is he here?’

The Argentinian referee and VAR official who waved away Scotland’s late penalty against Hungary has reportedly been hit out at by UEFA.

Referee Facundo Tello and VAR Alejandro Hernandez are suspended that evening, along with the two assistants, Gabriel Chade and Ezequiel Brailovsky.

Tello infuriated Scotland boss Steve Clarke when Stuart Armstrong went down under an ugly challenge from Willi Orban in the 79th minute and nothing was given.

The Tartan Army were desperate for a goal to reach the round of 16 of Euro 2024, but failed to score and conceded a goal in injury time, dashing their dream.

Now the entire refereeing team from that evening has been sent packing along with five other teams, according to The sun.

Facundo Tello has reportedly been dropped from Euro 2024 by UEFA after controversially denying Scotland a penalty before Hungary’s dramatic late winning goal against them.

The team that took charge of Scotland’s final group match is one of six sides reportedly sent home.

Scotland managed just one point in the campaign.

They opened the tournament with a 5–1 defeat to hosts Germany on the opening day, then drew 1–1 with Switzerland before suffering a 1–0 defeat to the Hungarians.

Scotland manager Clarke was furious, saying: ‘He’s from Argentina, why would I ask him about it?’

‘He probably doesn’t speak the language. I don’t know.

‘Why is he here? Why is there no European referee?’

He also emphasized that it was ‘100 percent’ a penalty and asked: ‘What is the point of VAR if they don’t take action on something like that?’

Clarke’s comments about Tello, who also refereed the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, are being scrutinized by UEFA.

The European Football Association suspects that VAR assistant Hernandez failed to intervene twice during Scotland’s 1-0 defeat against Hungary.

In that deal, Italian referee Maurizio Mariani has gone the opposite direction to represent the Copa America this summer.

In addition to the Armstrong incident, they believed Hungary should have been awarded a penalty for Grant Hanley’s elbow on Endre Botka in the first half.

Tello has been in Germany following an agreement between UEFA and CONMEBOL, the South American football federation.

Tello is infamous for once handing out as many as 10 red cards in one match.

That match had to be abandoned when Racing were leading 2-1, because Boca Juniors had only six players on the pitch, less than the minimum of seven.
