An Argentinian journalist has claimed Lisandro Martinez could be out ‘between one to two months’ after appearing to suffer a serious knee injury during Man United’s 3-0 win over West Ham last weekend.
The Argentine started for only the fourth time since returning from a long-term injury and was substituted after colliding with West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal.
The 26-year-old appeared to experience some discomfort after the incident, as he lay on the byline holding his knee after appearing to twist awkwardly during the challenge.
TyC Sports Reporter, Gaston Edulhas now provided an update on his situation, claiming on X (formerly Twitter) that the defender had ‘sprained a collateral ligament in his leg’.
Despite this, he also claimed there was ‘good news’ and that the Argentina World Cup winner ‘didn’t need to undergo surgery’

Martinez appeared to injure himself after tangling with Vladimir Coufal during the match
Martinez had already missed much of the season and United fans feared his season could have been ‘completely over’ after he limped off the pitch on Sunday.
Man United boss Erik ten Hag also expressed concerns about the fitness of his centre-back after the match, with the Dutchman saying: ‘It doesn’t look good so there are big concerns.
‘We have to wait for the diagnosis, then we can tell you more.
‘He is very sad, very disappointed. We are with him. It’s a personal disaster. He’s just coming back. He is very important to us. He brings spirit to the team, in addition to his football qualities. Hopefully it won’t be too bad, we can only pray.
‘He has worked so hard to get back and now, after four games, it looks like he will have to sit out another few games.’
