An Argentine governor seeking re-election has channeled his inner Rocky Balboa in hopes of drawing more voters after coming up short in the primary this summer.
Governor Jorge Capitanich’s campaign team released a version of the iconic Rocky II scene in which the character, played by Sylvester Stallone, runs through the streets of Philadelphia in preparation for his battle with Apollo Creed.
Capitanich’s face overlays Rocky’s, who is jogging with hundreds of people in tow before climbing the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
His rendition of the video addresses some of the goals his administration claims to have achieved in northeastern Chaco province after being elected governor for a second time in 2019.
Argentina Governor Jorge Capitanich’s campaign decided to channel its inner Rocky Balboa when they put his face over Sylvester Stallone’s iconic character, as Capitanich hopes this will attract voters ahead of the Sept. 17 election in the northeastern province of Chaco.
Jorge Capitanich, who was elected governor of Argentina’s Chaco province in 2019, came in second after his party ‘Chaqueño Front’ came second behind Leandro Zdero and the party ‘Together For A Change’.

The clip praises the “14,000 paved blocks” and “20,000 houses” built during his current term.
It also celebrates the fact that his government has been responsible for “250 medical centers and 52 hospitals improved” and “820 schools widened.”
The video ends with Capitanich impersonating Rocky on the steps of the museum, displaying his nickname ‘Coqui’, ‘It’s Coqui’ and ‘Governor’ on screen.
Social media users were quick to mock Capitanich’s take on Rocky Balboa in the run-up to the Sept. 17 election.

The incumbent party ‘Chaqueño Front’ came second in the primary elections in July behind Leandro Zdero and the party ‘Together For A Change’.
Capitanich received more votes (192,725) than “Together For A Change” candidates Zdero (121,970) and Juan Polini (103,508).
However, Ismael Espinoza, who was also seeking the Chaqueño Front nomination, received only 1,961 votes.
“Rocky had his brother-in-law who worked in a butcher shop and Coqui had a friend who slaughtered pigs,” one user joked. “Maybe that’s why he feels identified.”
Another person wasn’t too thrilled with the video, suggesting that Capitanich “stained Rocky’s image.”
One user believed the governor’s video could cost him his seat.
“Does he think he’s going to win votes with this?”
