Argentina under fire after Enzo Fernandez posts video of Copa America winners singing racist chant

The Argentina national team is under fire after midfielder Enzo Fernandez posted a video on Sunday night showing the Copa America winner chanting a racist slogan.

Argentina defeated Colombia 1-0 at the Hard Rock Stadium to retain the Copa America title.

But Fernandez captured an ugly side of the post-match festivities in an Instagram live broadcast, as members of the team sang an infamous song first sung ahead of the 2022 World Cup final against France.

Before Argentina won that trophy, fans sang about how the French players were “all from Angola” and how “they fuck transvestites like that f***ing Mbappe” (an apparent reference to the star’s previously reported romance with transgender model Ines Rau).

And on Sunday, the Argentina players could be heard singing on the bus, while Fernandez filmed the festivities on his phone with a big grin.

The Chelsea player was already filming before the Argentina players started singing this particular song, but ended the live broadcast on Instagram seconds after the racist chant started.

Fans of X criticized Argentina for singing the song.

“Argentins are disgusting,” someone wrote.

“Useless footballer. Useless person,” someone said of Fernandez.

“Can someone tell me this is a joke,” said another.

Video of the incident on X (where several chants were also heard earlier) has been viewed more than a million times.

Only one player in France’s 2022 World Cup squad, Eduardo Camavinga, was born in Angola.

Colombia’s starting line-up on Sunday consisted mainly of black players, including striker Jhon Cordoba, midfielder Jefferson Lerma and defender Davinson Sanchez.

After the break following the Copa America, Fernandez returns to the Chelsea squad, which is led by the black Reece James.
