Are you still eligible for a stimulus check? These states are still sending them out in 2023 – here’s when you will receive yours

Millions of Americans will receive stimulus checks worth up to $1,000 – depending on their home state.

Government payments were commonplace during the Covid-19 pandemic, as millions of jobs were disrupted and households struggled to keep up with their budgets.

While most of the pandemic-era aid has ended, some states are still disbursing payments, mostly in the form of tax and property rebates.

For example, New Mexico and Montana may be discounting because they had surplus state budgets after receiving billions in pandemic aid from the federal government. Earlier this year, New Mexico began taking steps to pay back more than $673 million to residents’ pockets, according to the Associated Press.

Here are the states where Americans can still receive a check — and for how much.

Although most aid has been discontinued, some states are still issuing payments – mostly in the form of tax and property rebates

Idaho

Idaho plans to send about $500 million in 800,000 rebates by the end of this year, state officials announced in October 2022.

The special session discount for 2022 automatically goes to people who lived in Idaho all year before 2020 and 2021 and who filed income tax returns for those years.

Individuals will receive $300, while families will receive $600 — or 10 percent of a taxpayer’s income tax in 2020 — whichever is greater.

Those who have not yet received the payment can track the progress on the official government place.

Illinois

The state announced last year that about six million residents would receive a discount on income and property taxes.

While the deadline was last October to submit details to qualify for the discount, state tax officials warned that it would likely be months before everyone received their checks.

The income tax credit for individuals is $50, and up to $100 for couples filing jointly, and up to $300 for families with dependents.

The property tax credit is up to $300.

Massachusetts

The Bay State began paying tax refunds in November last year to 3 million eligible filers who are entitled to a 14 percent cut on their state income for 2021.

All residents who have not yet submitted their declaration for 2021 have until September 15 to submit their declaration and receive their share.

Minnesota

Eligible Minnesotans will receive a one-time direct credit for the 2021 tax year following a recent state law update.

The legislation, which was signed into law in May this year, provides for payments of $520 for married couples filing joint returns with incomes of $150,000 or less, or $260 for individuals with incomes of $75,000 or less.

Residents can update their address or bank details on the official state portal if the details have changed since they filed their 2021 return.

Montana

Montana homeowners will recover up to $1,350 in property taxes over the next two years, Governor Greg Gianforte said last month.

“Property taxes are too high, which is why during this legislature we prioritized an immediate property tax exemption for Montanans,” Governor Gianforte said.

“Now is the time to build on reforms to reduce the long-term burden of property taxes.”

To qualify, an individual must have lived in or owned a property in Montana for at least seven months last year and paid property taxes on that property.

Residents can to apply from August 15 and all claims must be submitted by October 1.

New Mexico

Late last month, state officials began distributing “economic aid” of $500 or $1,000 — a total of $15 million — to more than 26,000 residents.

Eligible low-income Americans should have received payments by direct deposit or mailed check, and an email has been sent to applicants who have not received payment.

“We know that many families are struggling, so it is critical to provide much-needed assistance when prices for food, energy and other necessities have risen,” said Treasury and Taxation Secretary Stephanie Schardin Clarke.

The state also sent income tax rebates of $500 or $1,000 in late June to nearly 1 million residents who file tax returns in 2021, according to CBS.

Any resident of a state who has not yet filed a 2021 tax return has until May 31, 2024 to do so to receive a payout.

Washington

A working family tax credit is now available to low-income residents in the Evergreen State.

Depending on the number of dependents in the household, the payment will vary between $50 and $1,200.

To qualify, you must be a parent who has lived in Washington State for at least half of the year in 2022 and has filed a 2022 federal tax return.

To apply through the Washington State Department of Revenue through December 31, 2023.
