‘Spotify snooping’ has become the new technique to spy on crushes to ‘see’ what they are doing, how they feel and even get a glimpse into who they are – all without them knowing.
This is because many users have ‘Friend Activity’ activated on their accounts, which publicly displays their recently played songs, tunes they have liked and curated playlists.
TikTokers and Tweeters are sharing secrets they have uncovered with the stealth move.
Some have ‘ghosted’ a potential mate after learning their music taste, others found their crush has found another lover and many uncovered cheating significant others.
However, you will first need to find the username of your target – which ‘requires some good stalking skills.’
The trick was recently shared by TikTok user michellevillafilipina, who explained Spotify snooping
Friend Activity was initially launched to let people share music with friends, but the internet has found a more devious use for it.
A video was created by TikTok user michellevillafilipina, which details how someone can snoop using Spotify.
‘If you know their Spotify username, or if you’re good at stalking to find their account, if their playlists are not private, then you can see the playlists that they have made,’ she said in the video.
‘You can follow them too and see their activity if they allow for that.’
Social media is sharing how the trick is a great way to get to know people. While other users note they found out their significant other was cheating

Another user by the name of farisdaries shared a video of what they found out while snooping on their crush.
The caption on the clip describes how his crush recently made a new playlist titled ‘Since you want it so bad’ that includes songs by Mac Dmarco, Burno Major and Daniel Caesar.
The video’s description reads: ‘They be listening to cure r&b it should have been me,’ which suggests their crush has another lover in mind.
A commenter on the video shared that they also snooped on someone’s profile.
‘bruh the guy i talked to last had 43 playlists with most of the same songs on them with different quirky titles so i ghosted him,’ the comment reads.
And ‘Veronique’ shared that this is how she ‘found out [her] ex was dating someone new.
Regina Ticoalu, an 18-year-old college student in Colorado, told The Wall Street Journal that she uses the trick to get closer to friends and learn more about acquaintances.
However, she admitted using it to ‘check on people no longer in her life.’
She told WSJ that she used the feature to look up her ex-boyfriend’s account in November.
She saw he was listening to ‘Glimpse of Us’ by Joji, a song about starting to date again after a relationship ended.
And because the two recently went their separate ways, Ticoalu is sure the song is about her.
On the other hand, music artists have found this tool helpful in seeing who has downloaded their songs. Peyton Stilling snooped to find where her song ‘Healing’ is being heard, finding several accounts with the tune.

The Friend Activity was added to Spotify in 2015, but has recently gained traction a people looking to take a deeper look into someone’s life.
Spotify snooping gives you a window into how someone may feel or even what they are doing. But it is not available in the mobile app
There’s no Friend Activity view on mobile devices, though the music you play on mobile is shared.
However, you can turn off your activity in the app.
To deactivate the feature in the app, go to Home, tap settings and you can toggle the option to off under Privacy & Social for iOS and just Social for Android.
