(Warning: The following contains spoilers for Until sunrise.)
Until sunriseThe branching story and player choices result in some characters surviving the game’s events, and some characters dying (or transforming into cannibalistic likkenos). In the original version of Until sunriseJosh was able to survive the events of the game, but his ultimate fate left him trapped underground and turned into a nauwo.
A new ending shows another possible outcome for Josh: he is isolated but still human. A voiceover from Josh’s psychiatrist Dr. Alan Hill hints at redemption for the character.
Additionally, a new epilogue set “several years later” after the events of the game focuses on Sam. She now lives in Los Angeles and wakes from a restless sleep. There are medications on her bedside table (meaning she is being treated for post-traumatic stress or anxiety resulting from the events of her life). Until sunrise) and a book titled Creature Myths of the Great Plains. It seems Sam has been studying her mythological creatures. Sam also seems to be suffering from some sort of wound, one that won’t heal – and one that looks like it might be a nauwo bite.
Until sunriseThe film’s new ending could point to a direct sequel, and we may have some clues as to who’s making it. Firesprite Games, owned by Sony (Horizon: Call from the mountain) is working on an “AAA story-driven horror adventure game in Unreal (Engine) 5”, according to vacancies. A Firesprite employee’s resume uncovered earlier this year pointed to an “unannounced branching horror-adventure game” based on a “pre-established IP” in development at the studio.
Ballistic Moon announced layoffs in Septembersaying the studio had “significantly scaled back” its team. And original Until sunrise developer Supermassive Games has gone further Until sunrisebut has continued to develop branching horror adventure games such as The quarry and the next one Guideline 8020which is part of the studio’s Dark Pictures anthology.
