Are dogs allowed to stay outside in winter? Man left an aggressive note after leaving his pets outside in freezing temperatures

  • A passerby left an angry note with a South Australian man
  • He had left his dogs outside in freezing temperatures

A man has shared an expletive-laden note left for him by a passerby who was furious that he left his dogs outside in near-freezing conditions.

The man discovered the note after temperatures plummeted early Monday morning at his home in Murray Bridge, South Australia.

The note read: ‘You (sic) a worthless human being. 4C to below 2C and dogs outside. F**k me, what a f**k.’

To add insult to injury, the aggressive note was written on a professional pad with the message “with compliments” on it.

The angry dog owner responded to the letter-giver with his own hostile message.

“To the d**khead who left this note on my wife’s car this morning, you know nothing about my dogs, they have kennels both in a shed and outside, not that it has anything to do with you,” he wrote on a local community page.

‘We also know who you are because the people across the street have cameras.

“If you’re that worried about my dogs, go up and pet them, jerk.

“You must have been busy this morning writing notes to everyone who has dogs outside. What were you snooping about at that time of the morning anyway?’

The majority of commentators under the man’s diatribe sided with him, calling out the passerby for assuming the worst.

“Crazy how dogs and other wildlife survive,” one person wrote.

‘WTF. My two dogs sleep outside and stay warm together in their large crate and extra dog bed… so what… how rude of you to do that,” said another.

CAN PETS BE LEAVE OUTSIDE IN WINTER?

RSPCA South Australia advises pet owners to take precautions when leaving animals outside in the cold.

Dogs, cats and farm animals (including chickens) can all suffer if left in freezing temperatures.

Domesticated animals that are short-haired, older, young, underweight and unwell are particularly vulnerable to temperature drops.

The RSPCA is urging pet owners to create a dry and warm place for animals to nest, swap metal bowls for plastic to avoid tongue-tingling scenarios, and leave more food as animals burn more energy to keep warm to stay.

Warm coats can be purchased to help dogs through the colder months, but smaller pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs should be brought indoors.
