Are these Britain’s ‘ugliest’ dogs? From funny hair dos to severe overbites – the UK’s most unphotogenic pooches revealed
A competition to find Britain’s ‘ugliest’ dog that ‘hurts your eyes when you look at it’ has hit a snag after entries were found to be ‘too cute’.
The organizers behind the competition, which launched last month, criticized the British for their photos of their pets, saying the flood of entries simply wasn’t ugly enough.
Matt Dahan, founder of photography company ParrotPrint.com, which organizes the contest, said the contest is only open to pets that are “ass ugly” and “hurt your eyes when you look at them.”
Previous winners of the unfortunate title include four-year-old Peggy the Pug and the Chinese-crested Cross, who recently starred alongside Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool and Wolverine.
In an attempt to define what is ‘ugly’, the competition organizers are calling on more non-photogenic puppies such as Muppet, a rat-like pup from Peterborough.

In an attempt to clarify what ‘ugly’ is, competition organizers are calling on more non-photogenic puppies such as Muppet (pictured), a rat-like pup from Peterborough
Muppet, brother of the world’s ugliest dog in 2012, has lost several teeth and his tongue hangs out most of the time. He also has a white center parting of fur on his head.
The Chinese Crested was originally named Gollum after the Lord of the Rings character, but his new owner changed his name to ‘Muppet’ thanks to his ‘cheeky grin and playful nature’.
The main jury has called on the British to stop submitting photos of dogs like Ivy from Glasgow, who is considered far too beautiful to have any chance of winning.
The photogenic Chihuahua currently represents 90 percent of all participants in the competition – a situation organizers say they want to change.
Main jury member Mr. Dahan said: ‘We love dogs and it’s great that so many owners are willing to nominate their beloved pets to our competition, but we must be clear: this is a competition to find Britain’s ugliest dog.
‘We’ve had a lot of responses so far, but 90 per cent of entries have been cute dogs, like little Ivy from Glasgow, who is clearly cute but has no chance of winning.
‘While it’s great that so many people want to get involved, we have to ask people not to send in photos unless they honestly consider their dog to be one of the ugliest in the country.

“We’re looking for dogs that make your eyes hurt when you look at them and we think Muppet has the looks to challenge for the title. This is definitely not a competition for cute dogs or beautiful pets.
‘If you think your dog is ugly, we would like to hear from you. The winning street dog will be treated to professional grooming and a before and after photo session.
‘Let’s see if we can turn an ugly dog into a beautiful one and brighten up the owner’s life at the same time.’
Peggy won the title of Britain’s ugliest dog last year after an official poll.
Since then, she has become a global superstar, starring in the blockbuster Marvel hit Deadpool and Wolverine, even wearing her own costume.

She started life as the runt of a random litter, before being adopted by Holly Middleton from Leven, East Yorkshire when she was six months old.
Instead of feeling self-conscious about her quirky appearance, Peggy, encouraged by the loving owner, walks around proudly.
Peggy’s owner entered the dog in the UK’s ‘Ugliest Dog’ competition and won the prize of a grooming session and a photo shoot.
She even appeared at a red carpet event earlier this year to mark the release of Deadpool and Wolverine – with actor Reynolds, 47, posing for photos with the dog.
The previous winner of Britain’s last ugliest dog was Chase, another Chinese Crested cross with no teeth, cataracts and a crab-like gait.
The ‘unique’ dog lived with his owner Storm Shayler in South Wales and came third in the world ugly dog competition in California in 2017.

Chase – who was described by the owner as “beautiful inside” – died two years later in 2019, at the age of 16, after a battle with pancreatitis.
Owner Storm said at the time that the dog was a ‘unique dog’, adding: ‘He had so much personality and I took him everywhere.’
Anyone wanting to enter the Britiain’s Ugliest Dog competition must email Parrot Print before October 31st. A shortlist will be announced in early November and the winner will be crowned in December. Entries can be sent to uglydog@parrotprint.com
